SKA Africa National Diploma Bursary Programme in South Africa, 2015

Applications are invited for SKA Bursary from South African students who wish to pursue a diploma in electronics and mechanical engineering in radio astronomy. Applicants are open for students from the Northern Cape Province. Preference will be given to candidates from the towns of Brandvlei, Carnarvon, Calvinia, Lokston, Van Wyksvlei, Victoria West, Vorsburg West and Williston. Maximum bursary grant in 2015 (all inclusive) is R 88 000.00. The closing date for applications is 30 April, 2015.

Eligibility:

Scholarship Description: For a Bursary to study towards a National Diploma in Electronic or Mechanical Engineering â€" to commence with studies in July 2015. This call is only for applications for bursaries to study the theory/academic component of a National Diploma in electronic or mechanical engineering (i.e. applications for bursaries for the Work Integrated Component of a National Diploma will not be considered in this particular call).

Duration of award(s): For national diploma students, funds will be paid to the university of technology, where the student is registered, at the beginning of each semester. The maximum bursary duration is as follows: S1: 2 years, S2: 18 months, S3: 1 year, S4: 6 months.

What does it cover? Maximum bursary grant in 2015 (all inclusive) is R 88 000.00. The amount remaining after tuition, and residence fees (if relevant), has been paid to the university of technology, must be used by the student to pay for living costs (rent, food, travel etc.), and for books and stationery.

Selection Criteria: The award of an SKA SA bursary to a student will be based on academic performance, determined through the evaluation of the student’s latest Grade 12 results and / or the student’s latest university of technology results.

Human Development Fellowships for Developing Countries at IIAS in India, 2015

The International Centre for Human Development is offering residential fellowships for mid-career and young professionals from eligible developing countries. This residential fellowship programme is offered at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, India for a period of three months (1 June-31 August 2015). The research and analytical work to be conducted during the Fellowship period should not involve empirical data collection and fieldwork. The Fellows will receive an amount of INR 50,000 per month for young professionals and INR 150,000 per month for mid-career professionals. The application deadline is 15 April, 2015.

Study Subject(s): The analytical work supported under the 2015 Human Development Fellowship programme should focus on a well-defined aspect of human development that could include, but need not be limited to, the following: Analysis of human development initiatives in a country that should be related to social protection or any other theme relevant to human development; Analysis and documentation of  innovative interventions for human development in developing countries and undertake comparative analysis of human development policies across developing countries.

2015 Department of Chemistry PhD Research Fellowship in Structural Biology, Norway

University of Oslo is inviting applications for a PhD research fellowship in structural biology at Department of Chemistry. The PhD project will be in the field of structural biology on a project entitled “Bacterial toxins â€" Structure, function and molecular interactions “. The fellowship will be for a period of 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work (teaching responsibilities at the Department). The project will ideally combine biophysical characterization (foremost by X-ray crystallography) with cell biological investigations. It is anticipated that the project will include a research stay at a foreign institution such as the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF), Grenoble. The project can be expanded to involve collaborations with Michele Cascella (computational chemistry) and Kirsten Sandvig (cell biology).
