UOIT Global Leadership Award for International Students in Canada, 2016

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology’s (UOIT) invites applications for global leadership award from international secondary school student currently studying outside of Canada. The award is valued at $72,000 ($18,000 x 4 years). To qualify for renewal of these awards, students must maintain an average of 80 percent or 3.7 GPA while studying at UOIT on a full-time course load (as per UOIT’s grading scale). The application deadline is March 31, 2016.

Eligibility:

Scholarship Description: If you are an international secondary school student entering an undergraduate program at UOIT on a study permit, and are currently studying outside of Canada, you can apply for UOIT’s Global Leadership Award (GLA). The GLA scholarship is one of UOIT’s most prestigious entrance awards. Valued at $72,000 ($18,000 a year for four years), the GLA recognizes international secondary school applicants with strong academic and leadership abilities. Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the GLA.

Duration of award(s): The duration of award is 4 years. To qualify for renewal of these awards, students must maintain an average of 80 percent or 3.7 GPA while studying at UOIT on a full-time course load (as per UOIT’s grading scale).

What does it cover? The award is valued at $72,000 ($18,000 x 4 years).

Selection Criteria: The Awards Committee will make selections based on the above qualifications.

Notification: Successful applicants will be notified by early June.

How to Apply: All information must be keyboarded or typed on additional paper, except where noted. Handwritten applications will be discarded. Submit a maximum of two letters of reference with your application. Ensure that the letters are in sealed envelopes that are stamped or signed across the seal by the referee. Submit completed applications to the UOIT Registrar’s Office via post.

ICMR Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) for Indian Researchers in India, 2015

Indian Council of Medical Research is inviting applications for junior research fellowships. The award of Junior Research Fellowship to the successful eligible candidates will depend on their finding placement in a medical college / hospital / university / national laboratory / institution of higher learning and research as applicable. The existing value of the fellowship is at present Rs. 25000/-Per  month and an annual contingency grant up to Rs. 20,000/- per annum. The application deadline is May 26, 2015.

Scholarship Description:  ICMR JRF Examination is the first step in the process of admission to the Ph.D/ Research Programme through council’s support. Test for ICMR JRF fellowship are conducted at the seven centres viz. Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Mumbai once a year. The award of JRF is made on merit basis by holding an entrance examination after issuing a countrywide admission notice. The admission notice is published in leading English Newspapers of India usually during March/April and also on the website. The entrance examination is usually held in the first/second week of July.

Number of award(s):  A total of 150 Fellowships would be awarded. 120 Fellowships would be awarded for work in the field of biomedical sciences with emphasis on Life Sciences (like microbiology, physiology, molecular biology, genetics, human biology, bioinformatics, biotechnology, biochemistry, biophysics, immunology, Pharmacology, zoology, Environment Science, botany, veterinary sciences, bio-informatics etc.). Thirty Fellowships would be awarded for work with emphasis on Social sciences like psychology, sociology, home science, statistics, anthropology, social work and Health Economics.
-Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for life sciences and the second for those candidates qualifying for social sciences, will be made on the basis of their performance in the above test.
-The candidates selected for the JRF programme of ICMR would be permitted to enroll themselves for the Ph.D. programme of any University recognised by the UGC/MCI. However, the JRF programme would not have any connection with the Ph.D. programme.The validity of fellowship awarded to a candidate will be six months.

Another 100 candidates would be selected for consideration for positions of JRF under various research schemes of ICMR (subject to fulfilling the conditions for appointment under the schemes) for the duration of that scheme. These JRFs would also be permitted to complete Ph.D. while working in the scheme, if enrolled.  The validity of result will be two years for placement in ICMR funded projects.
-SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped (PH) applicants will be given such special consideration as per policy guidelines.
Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF will receive fellowship from ICMR.

What does it cover? The existing value of the fellowship is at present Rs. 25000/- (Rupees Twenty Five  thousand only)  Per  month and an annual contingency grant up to Rs. 20,000/- per annum. The local institution shall review the performance of JRF after two years through an appropriate Review Committee constiuted by the Head of the institution. The fellow may be awarded SRF after successful assessment by the Review Committee.

Notification:  The successful candidates would be notified by post and notice published in Employment Newspaper. The list also would be available on the ICMR website.
Joining time: Selected candidates must join their respective course on the prescribed date as indicated in their admission letter. The selection of those who fail to join by the specified date shall automatically stand cancelled.

Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellowship (VHJF) Program in Czech Republic, 2015-2016

Applications are invited for Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellowships from journalists to pursue their profession in support of pluralism. Selected Fellows are placed with a language service at RFE/RL’s headquarters in Prague, where they receive on-the-job training and mentoring while working alongside RFE/RL’s seasoned professionals. Eligible applicants will be from one of the seven target countries; have a minimum of two years experience working as a journalist in their native language; have a demonstrated commitment to journalism as a profession; and be proficient in English. The application deadline is May 31, 2015.

Study Subject(s): Fellowship is awarded in the area of Journalism.
Course Level: This is a eight months fellowship programme to Journalists. Fellows receive on-the-job training and mentoring while working alongside RFE/RL’s seasoned professionals.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Fellowship accepts applications from journalists in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation.

Scholarship Description: Applications are currently being accepted for the 2015-2016 Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellowship (VHJF). The purpose of the Fellowship is to support aspiring journalists from countries lacking media freedom and independence to pursue their profession in support of pluralism. It is inspired by former Czech President Vaclav Havel’s belief in the transformational role of journalism in challenging tyranny. The Fellowship is a joint initiative of RFE/RL and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, and is generously supported by the Prague Freedom Foundation and the Dagmar and Vaclav Havel Foundation VIZE97.
