Universities set up international research scholarship programs to attract high quality students to contribute to their research efforts. Research scholarships are usually towards Masters by Research/Thesis or PhD Degree.

Adelaide Scholarships International (Australia)
The University of Adelaide offers the  Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) program to attract high quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort.  The scholarships includes course tuition fees, annual living allowance, and health insurance.
Flinders International Postgraduate Scholarships (Australia)
Flinders International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (FIPRS) are awarded to  suitably qualified applicants to pursue a full-time research higher degree at Flinders University - up to three years for a Research Doctorate degree and up to two years for a Research Masters degree. The scholarship includes tuition fee, living allowance, and establishment allowance.
Melbourne International Research Scholarships (Australia)
The Melbourne International Research Scholarships (MIRS) is awarded to international students wishing to undertake graduate research degree studies at the University of Melbourne. MIRSs are funded by the University with each faculty having a limited number to award.  Benefits provided by the MIRS include living allowance, relocation grant, thesis allowance and paid sick, maternity and parenting leave.
University of Newcastle International Postgraduate Scholarships (Australia)
The University of Newcastle offers a number of postgraduate research scholarships to support international research candidates. One of these is the University of Newcastle International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (UNIPRS) which is towards Masterâs degree by Research or PhD degree. The scholarship includes an annual living allowance, full tuition fee scholarship, relocation and establishment allowance, and the payment of Overseas Students Health Cover.
University of Sydney International Scholarships (Australia)
The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Masterâs by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS). Â Â The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years.
University of Western Australia International Postgraduate Scholarships (Australia)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified international students for scholarships to undertake the degree of Master by Research or Doctor of Philosophy at The University of Western Australia. These schemes seek to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas in which the University has specialised research strengths and to support Australiaâs research effort. The IPRS scholarships cover international tuition fees for up to four (4) years, as well as overseas student health cover.
Cambridge International Scholarship Scheme (UK)
The University of Cambridge will offer, via the Cambridge Trusts, approximately 80 Cambridge International Scholarships to Overseas Students who embark on a research course leading to a PhD Degree. Â Each award will underwrite the full cost of fees and maintenance for the duration of the course.
Cavendish Research PhD Scholarships at University of Westminster (UK)
The Cavendish Research PhD scholarships are intended for students from a developing country who wishes to pursue a full-time MPhil/PhD degree at the Universityâs Faculty of Science and Technology. Â The scholarship is a full tuition fee award.
Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships (UK)
The Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships are designed to attract high quality overseas research students to the University of Edinburgh. Each award covers the difference between the tuition fee for a UK/EUgraduate student and that chargeable to an overseas graduate student. The awards do not cover maintenance expenses.
Leeds International Research Scholarships (UK)

Nottingham Vice-Chancellorâs International Scholarship for Research Excellence (UK)
The University of Nottingham offers scholarships for international students who wish to pursue a PhD or MPhil research programme at the University.  The scholarship cover full tuition fees.
Sussex Chancellorâs International Research Scholarships (UK)
The University of Sussex is seeking to attract 10 international research scholars for full-time doctoral studies. Â The scholarship will cover international fees and provide a stipend which will match that provided for UK doctoral students by the UK Research Council.
Warwick Chancellorâs International Scholarships (UK)
The Warwick Graduate School awards around 25 Chancellorâs International Scholarships to the most outstanding international PhD applicants yearly. University of Otago Doctoral Scholarships (New Zealand)
The University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship provides funding to support doctoral students studying at the University of Otago. Â The scholarships include NZ$25,000 stipend per annum plus domestic tuition fees waiver (excludes student services fee and insurance).
IRO Doctoral Scholarship Programme at K.U. Leuven (Belgium)
As one of its contributions to development co-operation, K.U.Leuven offers IRO (Interfaculty Council for Development Co-operation) scholarships to deserving students from developing countries to do their PhD in the largest university in Flanders, Belgium.  Each academic year, IRO scholarships are granted for doctoral or pre-doctoral programmes.  The scholarships include a monthly allowance of â¬1,415, tuition fee, health insurance, accident insurance, one-time installation allowance, and return tickets.
Fulbright Foreign Student Program (USA)
The Fulbright Foreign Student Program are prestigious scholarships for international students who wants to pursue a Masterâs or PhD degree in the United States. Â The Fulbright program provides funding for the duration of the study. The grant also funds tuition, textbooks, airfare, a living stipend, and health insurance.
Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Canada)
The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) was created to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and to establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning. The scholarships are towards a doctoral degree (or combined MA/PhD or MD/PhD).  The scholarships is worth $50,000 per year for three years.
Australia International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) (Australia)
The IPRS program enables international students to undertake a postgraduate research qualification in Australia and gain experience with leading Australian researchers. The scholarships are available for a period of two years for a Masters by research degree or three years for a Doctorate by research degree.  The scholarship covers tuition fees and health cover costs.
Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships (Switzerland)
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue doctoral or postdoctoral research  at one of the public funded university or recognized institution in Switzerland.  The scholarship covers a monthly allowance, tuition fees, health insurance, lodging allowance, etc.
Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme (France)
The French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs launched the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme to attract elite overseas students on PhD courses offered by French Universities. Eiffel scholarship-holders on PhD courses receive a monthly allowance of â¬1,400, some travel costs, health insurance and cultural activities. The Eiffel programme does not cover tuition fees.
Netherlands PhD Fellowship Program (Netherlands)
The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand-driven fellowship programmes designed to promote capacity building within organizations in developing countries by providing training and education to their mid-career staff members. The scholarships allow candidates to pursue PhD studies at Dutch Universities or academic institutions. Â The PhD fellowships awards an amount as a contribution towards the costs of living, visa, travel and insurance costs, etc.
Quota Scholarship Scheme (Norway)
The Quota Scheme awards scholarships for international students from certain developing countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Palestinian Authorities.The scheme normally includes courses at the PhD level.  Each student receives the same amount of money as a Norwegian student would do in an equivalent educational programme. About 30 per cent of the amount is given as a grant and 70 per cent as a loan. However, the loan portion is waived when the student returns to his/her home country after completing the course of study.
CIMO Doctoral Fellowships (Finland)
The CIMO Fellowships programme is open to young Doctoral level students and researchers from all countries and from all academic fields who wish to pursue their Doctorate (or Double Doctorate) at a Finnish university. The scholarship period may vary from 3 to 12 months and includes a monthly allowance.
New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (New Zealand)
The NZIDRS provides  for international students to undertake PhD study in any discipline at a New Zealand university.  The NZIDRS covers University tuition fees and associated student levies for 3 years, an annual living stipend, and medical insurance.
Japanese Government Scholarships for International Research Students (Japan)
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to international students who wish to study in graduate courses at Japanese universities either as (non-degree) student or regular student for a degree under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program. The scholarship includes a monthly allowance, travel costs to and from Japan, and school fees.
