edX is a learning platform that gives students from any country the opportunity to take free online courses offered by three premier Universities in the US â" Harvard, MIT, and UC Berkeley. Â Online learners can earn a certificate of completion after completing the course.

The list of Universities include Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California Berkeley, McGill University, Australian National University, Wellesley University, Georgetown University, University of Toronto, TU Delft, Â and The University of Texas System. Â More than 120 universities from around the world have expressed interest in collaborating with edX since its inception; in the future, more Universities will participate in the program.

There are currently 32 courses offered for Fall 2012 but their goal is to offer a wide variety of courses across disciplines.
Target group:
The course are available to anyone in the world â" from any demographic â" who has interest in advancing their own knowledge.
Scholarship value/inclusions:
For the courses in Fall 2012, those certificates will be free. There is a plan to charge a modest fee for certificates in the future.
Eligibility:
EdX will be available to anyone in the world with computer with internet connection, and in general, there will not be an admissions process.
Application instructions:
To apply for an EdX course, just simply complete the online signup form. Enrolling will create your unique student record in the edX database, allow you to register for classes, and to receive a certificate on successful completion.  Applications are accepted throughout the year.
