The Fulbright Commission (USEF-Nepal) has announced NESA UGRAD program which will provide scholarships to exceptional students from disadvantaged and under-privileged grounding. Out of about 10 Nepalis nominated by the Fulbright commission in Nepal, about 5-7 students will be provided this scholarship which will then enable them to embark on one year of Undergraduate non-degree studies in the United States of America at a distinct 2 and 4-year institutions.
This scholarship will aid the students to cope with the studies in the USA that will commence from the late summer of 2013 for about one year. The applicants are able to apply in any subject area and the participants of this program will have to take part in at least 20 hours of community service at local organizations during their first semester for proper exposure to the semester, the NESA UGRAD participants will have to intern 8-20 hours every week associated with their subject of study with the view of letting the participants earn a fair share of experience and proficient abilities which can later be applicable in their cities and country. None of these internships will be paid for. Those who obtain the scholarship will be enrolled full time and will live on-hostel and will have to live with an American roommate. None of the applicants will be provided with the authority to select institutions or to change the placements. Credits earned by the shortlisted participants for the academic studies in Nepal will not be transferred to the US institutions; also the credits earned in the US institutions will not be transferred to the institutions in Nepal.
Any of the students who right now are in the final year of their grade 12 studies(or its equivalent like I.Sc., I.Com,etc.) or currently in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of their Bachelorsâ level education at any of certified institutions of Nepal during the period of application form submission can apply for the scholarship. Students who have completed their +2 level education but yet not joined Bachelorsâ degree are also eligible to apply.
Any individual who is willing to apply for the program must have a Nepali citizenship. And since the participants will be applying for the USA they will need to have a proper command over speaking, writing and reading English to ensure which the program commission will conduct an English language proficiency test for the selected applicants free of cost. Along with these, the participants will have to be in excellent health and fitness condition; there is a possibility that the short-listed participants will have to undergo a health and fitness test to make sure that they are fit enough to pursuit for higher education in the US as per the program. The applicants will have to submit all of the followings during the time of application:
- Entirely filled 6 pages of application form with the applicantsâ signature wherever needed
- 2 essays; the 1st one is a 450-550 words subjective enunciation and the other one is a 450-550 words declaration of achievement
- Two letters of recommendations; which are to be in the NESA UGRAD confidential reference letter form that comes along with the application
- One piece copy of the citizenship certificate
- Authenticated copies of all the academic documents and transcripts, SLC and further; the documents can be attested by the academic institutions who the certificates were issued by or Tribhuvan University or Kathmandu University or Fulbright Commission or the Government of Nepal or a public notary.
- One passport size photo (recently taken)
- A copy of authentic TOEFL score report (which is needed in case the applicant has taken the test earlier)
The recommendation letters which will authenticate your literary potential may be sent with the application, mailed rightaway, hand-delivered, faxed to number 977-1-4410881 or can be scanned and then e-mailed to fulbcomm [at] fulbrightnepal.org.np
The complete application set provided by the Fulbright Commission will contain the cover letter, 5 pages of Application Instructions and 6 pages of Application Form. Interested people who want to receive a copy of the application form will have to send a blank e-mail with the subject âPlease send NESA UGRAD applicationâ to the address fulbcomm@fulbrightnepal.org.np before 30th of January 2013.
