University of Copenhagen invites applications for one 3-year PhD scholarship at SAXO Institute within the Faculty of Humanities. The available position is part of the research done by the Center for Healthy Aging (CEHA). The PhD position will be involved in examining how aging processes have been organised, practiced and/or experienced in Denmark from mid-19th century in a cultural historical perspective. Employment for PhD position will start on February 1, 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter. Scholarship Description: The PhD position will be involved in examining how aging processes have been organised, practiced and/or experienced in Denmark from mid-19th century in a cultural historical perspective. University is interested in projects that can contribute to our interdisciplinary research, by exploring one or a combination of the following themes: the concept and practices of ‘aftægt’, the organisation of welfare institutions for the elderly, the role of civil society related to the care and provision for the elderly, and the changing individual, cultural and corporeal experiences of aging in the light of the societal transformations.
Number of award(s): There is only one PhD scholarship available for students.
Duration of award(s):Â Scholarship is awarded for a period of three years.
What does it cover? As a PhD student holding a PhD scholarship you are employed as a member of scientific staff in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). Your total salary consists of a basic pay rate based on previous academic job experience and a supplement. The basic monthly pay rate for a PhD student is currently (as of April 1, 2013) DKK 24,080 and the PhD supplement is DKK 1257.83 monthly. DKK 3500 montly is paid to a pension scheme. Other allowances might be agreed upon according to the provisions of the collective agreement.
Selection Criteria: In the assessment university will emphasise the candidate’s ability to reflect on the relevant/chosen cultural historical methods and theories, and the way these affect the outlined research and source material. Furthermore, it is critical to situate the project in a societal context and relate it to present issues of aging and the cultural research carried out in CEHA.Â
