Scholarship Description:ÃÂ For over 30 years, the Creative Glass Center of America at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center has awarded fellowships to artists, providing resources for them to develop and refine their work, while experimenting with both traditional and innovative processes involving glass as a medium. In response to the changing needs of artists due to continued economic uncertainty and the increasing difficulty of leaving jobs, families and studios, in 2015 the CGCA will restructure a portion of the year to accommodate flexible, short-term and project-based residencies. This shift also responds, in part, to the strategic goal of WheatonArts to better serve artists while more fully integrating their activity with the visitor experience.
Number of award(s): Up to four traditional fellowships will be awarded for the Spring of 2015.
Duration of award(s):àFellowships will be awarded for a period of 3 months. During the remainder of the year, CGCA will work to accommodate artistsâ needs with custom fellowships of various lengths and flexible schedules. In addition to the 3-month residency, artists are encouraged to submit proposals ranging from standard six-week residencies (up to 3 to be awarded), to intermittent residencies (scheduled repeat visits), to short-term project support.
What does it cover?ÃÂ The CGCA Fellowship Program provides 24-hour studio facilities, technical resources, housing and a stipend; allowing artists the opportunity to spend a concentrated period of time devoted exclusively to their work. Many emerging artists have used the Fellowships as a stepping-stone to a successful career. For mid-career artists, it offers an opportunity to redefine direction and renew creative energy. The collaboration and exchange of ideas among the Fellows enhances a productive climate, supporting the discovery of new vision and resources for each.
