Cardiff School of Social Sciences is offering three fully funded postgraduate research studentship for UK and EU students to begin in October 2015. Studentships are awarded to undertake research projects that use creative and participatory methodologies in the area of contemporary childhoods, culture and identity. Studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum. Additional funding of the value £750 p. a. for research and training is available. The award will be made on a 1+3 or +3 basis. A 1+3 studentship provides funding for four years for MSc & PhD program. A +3 studentship provides funding for the PhD only. The application deadline is 5 January, 2015.

 Eligibility:
-Residency: Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students who can satisfy UK residency requirements. To be eligible for the full award, EU Nationals must have been in the UK for at least 3 years prior to the start of the course for which they are seeking funding, including for the purposes of full-time education. EU Nationals who do not meet the above residency requirement are eligible for a fees only award, provided that they have been ordinarily resident in the EU for at least 3 years prior to the start of their proposed programme of study.
-Academic criteria:Â Candidates should have an excellent academic background in the social sciences or humanities, holding a 1st or upper 2nd class undergraduate degree.
Scholarship Open for International Students: These postgraduate research studentships are open for UK and EU students.

Duration of award(s): The award will be made on a 1+3 or +3 basis. A 1+3 studentship provides funding for four years. In the first year students will take the MSc in Social Science Research Methods (SSRM) established to provide training in research methods across the full range of the social sciences. There are also opportunities here to audit a range of modules on the new Childhood and Youth MSc. A +3 studentship provides funding for the PhD only (and assumes that the applicant will already have a relevant research methods background, such as on a Masterâs programme).
