London Research Institute (LRI) is awarding six joint PhD studentships to join 2015 Crick PhD Programme. Students will start their PhDs at the LRI and NIMR in September 2015, will register for their PhD at one of the Crick partner universities (Imperial College London, Kingâs College London or University College London) and will transfer into the Crick with their research group in early 2016. Successful applicants will be awarded a non-taxable annual stipend of £22,000. University tuition fees will also be covered. Eligibility: Talented and motivated graduates with backgrounds in biological sciences, physics, mathematics, computer science and/or chemistry who have decided that they want to do a PhD and:
-hold or expect to gain a first/upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
-have appropriate research experience as part of, or outside of, a university degree course and/or a Masters degree in a relevant subject.
-are able to satisfy the appropriate English language requirements of the Crick partner university.

Scholarship Description: The new Francis Crick Institute (the Crick) will conduct ground-breaking and interdisciplinary medical research to understand why disease develops and find new ways to prevent and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases. The Crick is a consortium of six of the UKâs most successful scientific and academic organisations â" the Medical Research Council (MRC), Cancer Research UK (CRUK), the Wellcome Trust, Imperial College London, Kingâs College London and University College London. In 2015 staff and students from the Cancer Research UK London Research Institute (LRI),and MRC National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) will join the Crick, and begin to transfer into its brand new state of the art facilities, opposite the St Pancras Eurostar terminar in central London. Students who join the 2015 Crick PhD Programme, will start their PhDs at the LRI and NIMR in September 2015, will register for their PhD at one of the Crick partner universities (Imperial College London, Kingâs College London or University College London), and will transfer into the Crick with their research group in early 2016. They will be funded by four-year non-taxable annual stipends of £22,000.
Number of award(s):Â This year 6 joint studentships are available: 1 Crick-LRI/Imperial College London, 4 Crick-LRI/Kingâs College London and 1 Crick-LRI/University College London. Students awarded these studentships will work on a collaborative PhD project and be supervised by an LRI primary supervisor and Kingâs, Imperial or UCL secondary supervisor. They will follow the Crick PhD Programme and be based between the LRI/Crick and their university research group.

Notification: Invitations to interview will be emailed to shortlisted candidates â" no later than Friday 19th December 2014. The three day interview process for the Crick-LRI PhD Programme will be held at our Lincolnâs Inn Fields Laboratories and will run from 9am on Wednesday 21st January to 4 pm on Friday 23rd January 2015 inclusive.
