The college seeks a candidate with strong skills in experimental design, statistical analysis, design of online and social media experiments, and text analysis. Programming skills in the following systems are essential: Statistical Programming: R, Scripting Languages: Python (or other languages, PHP, Javascript, Perl) and Database Management: MySQL. Skills or experience in using the following systems would be an advantage: Crowd-computing (e.g. AWS), Big-data analysis, Natural language processing, Compiled language programming (e.g. Java, C++, C#) and Online panel management.

Scholarship Description: The Nuffield College Centre for Experimental Social Sciences (CESS) has received a Faculty Research Award from Google Inc. which provides funding for a fixed-term research project to be carried out by a candidate who has recently completed, or is close to completing, his or her doctorate. The Google-funded project focuses on developing innovative strategies for conducting experiments on the Internet. These strategies include experimental design, implementation, sampling strategies, real-time interactive experiments, collection and analysis of social media content, and statistical analysis methods. One component of the project will be an evaluation of the Google Consumer Survey as a tool for online experiments, and a comparison with other platforms such as crowd sourced subjects, opt-in online panels, and the online panel developed by CESS.
